School Is Indoctrination, Not Education

Mass schooling developed alongside systems that prized order, standardisation and social discipline. The Prussian model influenced reformers in Europe and America, including Horace Mann, while the industrial age increasingly expected schools to prepare children for regimented work.

Whatever its original intentions, the structure still reveals what it rewards:

• You sit in rows.
• You ask permission to speak or go to the bathroom.
• You are rewarded for compliance more readily than creativity.
• You are often taught what to think, not how to think.
• You memorise and reproduce, rather than discern and challenge.

This is not the fullness of education. It is behavioural training dressed in academic language.

We tend to assume that curriculum is unbiased, neutral and purely fact based. It is not. Every curriculum reflects choices: which stories are told, which questions may be asked, which values are elevated and which beliefs are pushed to the margins.

From disputed accounts of history to questions of identity, ethics, sexuality and the origin of life, education always carries a worldview. The concern is not that children encounter different ideas; it is that one approved narrative can be presented as unquestionable while biblical conviction is treated as irrelevant or regressive.

Who decides what your child reads? Who shapes the content of science, relationships education, literature and history? Who benefits when a child becomes confused about identity, detached from family values and dependent on institutional approval?

When Yahuah is removed, moral absolutes give way to relativism. Confusion enters where there should be clarity, while parents are told to step back and trust the process.

This is not harmless. It deserves our discernment.

One of the first things the school system does is separate children from their parents. Not only physically, but mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

It can replace the mother’s voice with the system’s voice, family values with state approved programming, and inward discernment with the habit of looking outward for permission and answers.

What begins as a six hour day can become a sixteen year pipeline. From primary school to university, children may gradually be shaped to:

• Reject their Creator.
• See their parents as outdated.
• Value system approval over truth.
• Prioritise credentials over calling.
• Seek validation through performance.
• Fear thinking differently.

It is not merely education. It can become slow, systematic discipleship by the world.

One of the biggest claims made to mothers is that children need school in order to be “socialised”. Yet placing thirty children of the same age in one room for seven hours a day is not the only, or necessarily the richest, form of social development.

Children can learn relationship, responsibility and confidence through family, faith community, multi generational connection, real world experience and healthy mentorship. Those settings allow individuality to grow without making peer approval the centre of a child’s world.

You do not need the state to teach your child how to relate to people. Children need truth, presence, boundaries and genuine connection.

This is not only about education. It is about warfare. The classroom has become a battlefield for souls.

While many parents are preoccupied with grades and certificates, seeds of confusion, rebellion and worldview distortion can take root. Scripture gives parents a very different commission:

“Train up a child in the way he should go…” Proverbs 22:6

Modern schooling can train a child to go the world’s way. That influence is not neutral. The question is not only whether children become literate, but where their loyalty is formed and whether truth remains their foundation.

It is not free if it costs your child their identity. It is not harmless if it robs their vision. It is not noble if it disconnects them from their purpose.

The real cost may be years of unlearning, identity confusion, feeling unseen or uncalled, and missed opportunities to walk in purpose early.

The most dangerous system is the one people never question. School has become that system for many families.

True education was never meant to be a conveyor belt. It was meant to be discipleship: the development of discernment, conviction, character, communication and creativity.

Education should help a child:

• Know their Creator.
• Understand their purpose.
• Develop their gifts.
• Discern lies from truth.
• Walk in wisdom rather than worldly trends.

That vision cannot flourish inside any system determined to remove Him entirely.

In today’s culture, one of the most radical acts of rebellion is raising your child yourself.

Mothers are waking up. Fathers are realising that they have surrendered too much authority. Families are leaving the system and choosing presence over performance.

Homeschooling is not a retreat. It is a return to order, truth and stewardship. It is not about being perfect; it is about being responsible.

You do not have to recreate the classroom. You can restore connection. You do not have to be an expert. You need to be present, prayerful and willing to lead your child in truth.

Education is not what we were told, and school is not always what it seems.

It is time to stop outsourcing our children’s futures to systems that do not honour our values. It is time to reclaim education as a Kingdom assignment. Not as a burden, but as a calling.

The goal is not simply smart children. It is wise leaders, truth bearers and legacy builders.

That kind of child is not formed by a state mandated syllabus alone. They are formed in homes that teach from conviction rather than compliance.
