Bellicon rebounder for home fitness

Rebounding

Bellicon

Bellicon is a mini trampoline first launched in 1995 in Cologne, Germany. Instead of metal springs it uses custom made bungee cords, giving a soft, quiet bounce that is kind to your joints and still gives you a real workout.

Why It Matters

Rebounding is one of the few workouts that is gentle on the body and still works it hard. Research points to better cardiovascular fitness, improved balance and positive effects on bone structure and mental wellbeing. And it is fun, which is usually the difference between a workout you start and one you keep doing.

When To Do It

A short morning session to wake your body up, a mid afternoon reset, or a full workout. Because the intensity is quite high, you can get results in fewer minutes than on a treadmill or cross trainer.

Where

At home, in a small corner of any room. The bungee bounce is very quiet, so you can use it while the children nap or anyone else is around.

  • ✦Low impact cardio that is easy on your joints
  • ✦Improves dynamic balance, the kind you use when walking, climbing stairs or standing
  • ✦Better coordination and motor skills, which especially matters for anyone at risk of falling
  • ✦Pelvic floor muscles are highly active while you bounce
  • ✦Bungee strength matched to your weight and fitness level, so it works for the whole family
  • ✦Supports healthy lymph flow, since your lymphatic system relies on movement to circulate
  • ✦Fun enough that you will actually want to do it

Callanetics movement session at home

Strength & Tone

Callanetics

Callanetics was created by Callan Pinckney in the early 1980s. It uses many repetitions of small muscle movements and squeezes to improve muscle tone, and it grew out of classical ballet exercises she used to ease a back problem she was born with.

Why It Matters

The method is based on the idea that most popular workouts only train the surface muscles, while the deeper muscles that support them respond best to small, precise movements. There is no jumping and no jarring, just slow, controlled work that you feel quickly.

When To Do It

Any time of day. It suits days when you want strength without high intensity, and it is a good match for rebounding on alternate days.

Where

At home, using a barre or a chair and an exercise mat.

  • ✦Non impact, with no jarring or straining on your joints
  • ✦Works the deep supporting muscles, not just the surface ones
  • ✦Tones and strengthens through tiny, controlled pulses
  • ✦Strengthens and relaxes you at the same time
  • ✦Slow, small movements make it gentle for people who are out of shape or have back problems
  • ✦Needs only a mat and a little floor space
